Napoli Take Interest in Touted RB Salzburg Midfielder

Napoli are on the prowl for a new midfielder and have earmarked Maurits Kjaergaard, who’s been growing steadily in his time at Red Bull Salzburg. The Partenopei haven’t gotten much from Jens-Lys Cajuste and will lose Frank Anguissa for a while due to AFCON.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Dane will move to a big club in the near future. The Austrian side invested a lot to sign him when he was 16, spending €2.7M to acquire him from Lyngby. They were already certain about his potential. They will still register a large profit on him.

Napoli would have to spend roughly €15M to purchase Kjaergaard. His price tag is similar to Bodo/Glimt’s Albert Gronbaek, who’s also on their radar.

The 20-year-old is currently on the mend due to a shoulder injury. He has scored twice and added 5 assists in 15 appearances across all competitions. He has played thrice in the Champions League. The youngster captains Denmark’s U-21 and has yet to debut with the first team.

Our Take on Napoli and Kjaergaard

Cristiano Giuntoli has left, but it looks like their MO is the same, as they continue prioritizing foreign targets who combine potential with a manageable valuation. They do need one man, as Cajuste hasn’t grown enough. They opened the channel of communication with the Red Bull network signing Natan last summer. Another deal could be in the works, but it’ll come down to money, as always.
