Napoli to Target Barcelona Forward as Insigne Replacement?

Napoli are preparing for the departure of Lorenzo Insigne at the end of the season on a free transfer, as the Partenopei legend will part ways with the club for the pastures of Major League Soccer with Toronto FC. Insigne’s exit will undoubtedly leave a gaping hole in attack for Napoli and a direct replacement has long been pondered by Aurelio De Laurentiis and co.

According to reports from Calciomercato, the club hierarchy have looked into Barcelona forward Memphis Depay as captain Insigne’s successor at Stadio San Paolo. The 28-year-old Dutchman, who is ruled out of the upcoming clash against Napoli in the Europa League last 32, is contracted with the Blaugrana until June 2023.

He has a transfermarkt value of €45m.

Napoli could very well wait until next year to snap him up for free but a move at the end of the season for theformer Manchester United forward cannot be entirely ruled out.

He is currently facing competition to return back in Xavi Hernandez’s starting eleven due to the January arrivals of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ferran Torres from the Premier League.

Depay has made 23 appearances for Barcelona since his arrival last summer, scoring 8 and providing two assists in the process.
