Napoli’s run in the summer transfer market has not materialized as expected, with the club hoping to welcome couple more players ahead of the new Serie A season.
They have already set their sights on Sheffield United’s 23-year-old Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge, who the English club bought for €23M in 2020. They will expect nothing less in return and in the current financial situation of the club, finalizing a transfer has turned into a tough task.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via TuttoNapoli), Napoli Sporting Director Cristiano Giuntoli is not bound to take any action regarding incoming transfers this window. He is apparently headstrong about acquiring players on loan – with the central midfield and left-back role eager to be filled in.
Chelsea’s Tiémoué Bakayoko, who spent last season on loan in Naples, is the only one expected to be brought in on a highly subsidized transfer. With the coronavirus pandemic adding up to financial burdens, clubs want to sell their players to bring in funds and Napoli’s stance might just see them hold onto the players they have without bringing in any new faces.
