Newly-appointed Napoli coach Antonio Conte wastes no time as he looks to overhaul a faltering Partenopei squad. Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims the decorated manager has earmarked Amar Dedic and Leonardo Spinazzola as his top priorities for the upcoming transfer window.
Although Napoli didn’t fare well in a 3-4-3 set-up under Walter Mazzarri midway through last season, Conte is hellbent on making this fashionable formation work. Quality wing-backs are the pillars of this system, and the ex-Inter and Juventus coach wants the club to reinforce the flanks with at least two new signings.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if Napoli go for broke to sign RB Salzburg youngster Dedic, especially if Giovanni Di Lorenzo decides to link up with Juventus after holding discussions with Thiago Motta. The Bosnian will turn 22 in August and has already drawn interest from Inter.
But with Denzel Dumfries set to stay, the Serie A champions will not compete with Napoli for the right-back’s signature. It’s unclear how much money they’ll need to allocate to convince Salzburg to sell their sought-after youngster.
Landing Spinazzola shouldn’t be a tall order for Napoli, as his contract at Roma runs out in a fortnight.
Since he hasn’t been offered a new deal at the Stadio Olimpico, Napoli can sign the Euro 2020 winner on a free transfer. However, they’d be naive to expect Spinazzola to handle the flank all alone after a series of injuries plagued his post-tournament career.
