Napoli Very Confident About Adding Brighton’s Gilmour

Napoli have been pursuing Billy Gilmour for a couple of weeks at this point and believe their chase will be successful in short order. The midfielder has enthusiastically accepted the destination as he’s been flattered by the determination of the Azzurri. He doesn’t mind the fact that they won’t play in the European cups next season, La Gazzetta dello Sport relays.

The 23-year-old is eager to take a further step forward in his career and work under Antonio Conte. He’s a Chelsea product and got a taste of first-team football in London with Frank Lampard. He then moved to Brighton for €8M in 2022 and gained a significant role with Roberto De Zerbi in the dugout.

Napoli specifically targeted Gilmour for his all-around skillset. He’ll be able to deputize both Stanislav Lobotka and Frank Anguissa. The Seagulls rejected their opening bid, but they’ll return with a €12/15M offer that could convince the counterparty. The youngster has just two more years in his contract.

In the same role, the Partenopei are in talks with Cagliari for Gianluca Gaetano, and the Sardinians have also shown interest in Walid Cheddira. Instead, Jens-Lys Cajuste has turned down Galatasaray.

Our Take on Napoli and Gilmour

They need an extra man, more for the future than the present. It doesn’t hurt that his price tag is reasonable. It’d be a welcome turn of events if one of their deals proceeded quickly and without a hitch, but Brighton are quite hard bargainers.

  1. It will be a bad move for Billy as he will end up on the bench and something he has experienced before and he knows he didn’t like it then. Whoever is advising Billy needs changing. Bad career move. Stay put and play regularly at BHA.
