Napoli Winger Politano Draws Attention of Saudi Side

Matteo Politano is having his best campaign since joining Napoli, but his future is uncertain since his contract expires in 2025. The talks to extend it haven’t advanced much. He’s receiving interest from Saudi Arabia and Al Shabab in particular. They are led by an Italian director, Domenico Teti, who previously worked at Hellas Verona, Lugano, Sampdoria, Novara, APOEL, and PAOK.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via Mediaset), the team would be ready to hand lofty wages. The winger has set roots in Campania and would like to stay possibly till the end of his career.

Still, Politano will consider his alternatives if there’s no progress in the negotiation with Napoli. The Azzurri will soon sell a player in the same contractual situation, Elijf Elmas. However, the midfielder wasn’t starring consistently. Instead, the Italian winger has been a regular starter since his backup Jesper Lindstrom has struggled to adapt to Serie A.

Giovanni Simeone would like to play more too and would have that opportunity on other sides. However, with Victor Osimhen leaving for AFCON, his departure isn’t on the table. Instead, Alessandro Zanoli, Alessio Zerbin, and Gianluca Gaetano will be allowed to leave. The bass has yet to decide on Diego Demme.

Our Take on Politano

While the expiration date is a factor, he didn’t bolt when he had a much less prominent role, and there’s little reason for him to do it now. The buzz about Saudi Arabia is very helpful for agents who want to pressure teams.
