Newly-signed Napoli stopper Alessandro Buongiorno has revealed the defenders he looks up to in a bid to elevate his game. Having completed his move from Torino, the 25-year-old becomes the Partenopei’s fourth permanent transfer of the season, after Rafa Marin, Leonardo Spinazzola and Matija Popovic.
In his first press conference (via TuttoNapoli) as a Napoli player, Buongiorno touched on a variety of topics, even disclosing the defenders he idolized in his boyhood days.
“As a child I watched many videos of Maldini and Nesta, I went to Youtube when I could and I wanted to replicate what they did. Recently, I was inspired by Sergio Ramos for his leadership in the field. there is his aura inside and outside the field that has always pushed me to follow his behavior.”
Buongiorno dismissed talks of him being Kim Min-jae’s replacement.
“I don’t like to make comparisons, I hope to be an important player for Napoli like he was. I will try to help the team, I hope to do really well and I will give my absolute best.“
As per Buongiorno, coach Antonio Conte, sporting director Giovanni Manna and president Aurelio De Laurentiis all played significant roles in his decision to move to Naples.
“I felt like the coach was charged up and motivated. We also spoke with the sporting director and the club President, who both made important pitches regarding the future.”
