Newcastle United could make a last-ditch attempt to lure Inter ace midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu from under Simone Inzaghi’s nose, as per the latest reports from Interlive.it. The Magpies have shortlisted the ex-Milan man to cap off their transfer dealings this summer, having already added four permanent transfers to their squad – Sven Botman, Nick Pope, Matt Targett, and Aleksander Isak.
Backed by the Saudi consortium, Newcastle are the richest club in the world and will have to shell out a fortune to add Calhanoglu into their ranks, as Inter regard the Turkey international as one of their most prized possessions. He has a transfermarkt value in the range of €40M, but it is highly unlikely they will let him go for that amount as his contract expires only two years down the line.

The Magpies had previously targeted Lucas Paquetá, who was lured for a club-record fee by West Ham United from Lyon. Calhanoglu is seen as a direct alternative by the Newcastle brass – the icing on the cake following the acquisition of Isak.
The Turk, who arrived from Milan on a free transfer two seasons ago, is a key player in Inzaghi’s midfield stronghold. However, nobody is safe from bumper offers, with Inter expected to hear out offers if Newcastle make a worthy one. The Nerazzurri’s precarious financial position could very well force them to consider proposals.
