Nicola Zalewski Faces Roma Exile After Rejecting Galatasaray Move

Roma wingback Nicola Zalewski has become a subject of controversy after he turned down Galatasaray’s late approach. His decision to reject a move to Istanbul hasn’t gone well with the Giallorossi hierarchy, as they banished him from the squad.

Zalewski’s management agency, GP Soccer and Management, has tried to defend the player’s choice, even though it didn’t go along with the club’s decision.

A player has an inalienable right to decide whether transfers are finalized or not regarding his professional activities, without being conditioned or forced,” the agency’s statement read via ANSA news agency

Roma wanted to sell the Poland international amid Galatasaray’s persistent interest in their homegrown starlet. With the transfer market in all European leagues finished at the end of August, Turkey was the only viable destination for Zalewski.

However, that avenue is now closed. The transfer window in Turkey ended on September 13. As a result, Zalewski’s future at Roma remains up in the air. Daniele De Rossi frequently used the 22-year-old last season. But after Alexis Saelemaekers’ arrival from Milan, the situation has changed.

Zalewski is no longer an indispensable first-team component at the Stadio Olimpico. The player’s contract at Roma runs out in 2025. After failing to complete his sale to Galatasaray, the Italians risk losing their juvenile star on a free transfer in less than a year.

Therefore, Roma might try to reinstate Zalewski to get him to sign a new deal. Otherwise, he could be up for sale again in the January transfer window.
