Nicolas Gonzalez Set for Showdown Talks with Fiorentina

Nicolas Gonzalez’s vacation is coming to a close, with a crucial face-to-face meeting with Fiorentina reportedly waiting in the wings. According to Calciomercato, sporting director Daniele Prade is about to hold showdown talks with the Argentine forward amid concrete interest from Atalanta and Juventus.

Gonzalez was part of the Argentina squad that won the 2024 Copa America in July, with Fiorentina granting him longer holidays following an exhausting season. The 26-year-old is now heading back to Tuscany to sort out his future.

Despite Prade’s earlier assertion that Fiorentina consider their headline performer ‘99% unsellable,’ there’s a feeling Gonzalez’s three-year stint at the Stadio Artemio Franchi is reaching its conclusion. Atalanta and Juventus are determined to price him out of La Viola.

The winger’s entourage is reportedly open to brokering Gonzalez’s switch to Turin as Juventus bid to replace the outgoing Federico Chiesa with the highly-rated Fiorentina forward. Thiago Motta’s men would ideally reduce the financial outlay by including several counterparts in what could be an expensive deal.

Gonzalez’s contract at Fiorentina runs out in 2028. That puts Raffaele Palladino’s side in a strong bargaining position. But Palladino is reportedly keen on bringing Weston McKennie to Tuscany. Juventus are ready to sanction the USMNT midfielder’s exit and could use him as a makeweight to drive down the Argentine’s hefty price tag.

In addition to Juventus and Atalanta, several Premier League clubs monitor Gonzalez’s situation. There’s no doubt Fiorentina would prefer to sell their most prized asset abroad.
