Nicolo Barella: “Brozovic is the Best, Mkhitaryan is the Smartest”

As Inter prepare to finish up their club friendly sessions in Malta and head to Spain to face Real Betis in Sevilla, the club are eager to get back to playing ways in Serie A. Nicolo Barella, who has been ever-present in the recent games, believes change is possible going into the second half of the campaign.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via FCInterNews), the Italian central midfielder believes Napoli are in the position they are because of having not committed any mistakes.

“That the championship is won by those who are more balanced and make fewer mistakes. So far, Napoli have not committed any, while we have made many. From a certain point on, however, we met to resolve the issue all together and the results are visible.”

Barella then commented on the Nerazzurri midfield, which now has six pure midfielders, including Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marcelo Brozovic and Hakan Calhanoglu.

“In front of the defence, Brozo is the best in the world. He’s up there with Casemiro, but he interprets in a different way. Nobody is like Marcelo, his place is not in question. But we have a complete midfield, with many solutions. For example , Micki is the smartest player I’ve ever played with – he knows how to play every position well. Calha has the total vision of what it means to be a midfielder.”

He also spoke of Italy’s chances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, perhaps still as an Inter player.

“We have to go there first, but yes. I see myself on the pitch in 2026 still as an Inter fan.”

The Nerazzurri lag in 5th position with 30 points, 11 behind league leaders Napoli. They are level on points with 4th placed Lazio.
