Not Dumfries, Not Correa – Belgian Defender is Inter’s Most Expensive Summer Transfer

Inter encountered a decent summer transfer window period given the fact that they lost two of their most in-form and explosive talents in Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi – both playing a key role in the Nerazzurri’s Scudetto run last season.

They have brought in Denzel Dumfries for Hakimi, Edin Dzeko and Joaquin Correa for Lukaku and Hakan Calhanoglu for Christian Eriksen. However, none of the above mentioned arrivals are Inter’s most expensive transfer of the summer.

A surprising name in Belgian defender Zinho Vanheusden is the club’s highest-priced buy at €16m.

The Standard Liege youth product, moved to Inter’s youth academy in 2015, and since then has moved back and forth between Belgium and Italy.

After buying him from Liege in the summer, Inter immediately loaned the 22-year-old prodigy to Genoa for the rest of the 2021/22 season in order to gain experience and first team playing minutes. He is considered as an exciting defensive prospect for Inter’s future backline.

Dumfries arrived from PSV Eindhoven for €12.5m, with around €2-3m in add-ons. Joaquin Correa was brought in from Lazio on a €5m loan deal, which is expected to turn in a permanent transfer at the end of the current season for an additional €25-30m (to come into effect later). Calhanoglu arrived from the red-half of Milan on a free transfer after his contract with the Rossoneri expired. And Dzeko’s services will be given to Roma in the range of €1.5m subject to Champions League qualification next season.

Among such high-profile names, Vanheusden remains the Nerazzurri’s most expensive transfer.
