Inter and Denzel Dumfries have been negotiating a new contract in recent months with major optimism about a positive result.

Official: Inter Defensive Stalwart Signs New Long-Term Contract

After months of negotiations, Denzel Dumfries has finally pledged his long-term future to defending Serie A champions Inter. The Dutch wingback signed a new contract until 2028 on Thursday, putting speculation over his potential summer exit to bed.

I am very proud, it’s a special moment for me,” Dumfries told the club’s website. “I came here three years ago, and now I have renewed my contract. They’ve been three great years. I am very proud to continue my journey with Inter.

They’ve been three fantastic years, in particular the Scudetto win last season. It was a very special and exciting time for everyone. We worked really hard for this result. In general, all of the three years have been filled with excitement. I feel at home here and I am very happy to continue pushing forward with Inter.

Dumfries’ previous contract was running out at the end of the season. The 28-year-old joined Inter from PSV Eindhoven in 2021, penning a four-year deal. Therefore, the Italian giants were desperate to convince him to pledge his loyalty to Giuseppe Meazza since the beginning of the summer.

However, Dumfries hesitated to put pen to paper after Inter coach Simone Inzaghi used him as Matteo Darmian’s understudy last season. The situation has changed at the beginning of the new campaign, with the ex-PSG defender leapfrogging the Italian veteran in the pecking order.

Inter will handsomely reward Dumfries’ loyalty. His annual wages will increase from €2.5 million net to €4m plus add-ons.
