OFFICIAL: Napoli Sign Roma Pariah on Free Transfer

Napoli have confirmed the signing of Brazilian international Juan Jesus on a free transfer, after his contract with Roma expired in June earlier this year. He was released by the capital club and was on the hunt for a new club before the summer window came to a close.

Jesus will reunite with former Giallorossi boss Luciano Spalletti in Naples. The 30-year-old spent five season with Roma from 2016 onwards, where he made more than 100 appearances. Before his Roma spell, he spent five years at Inter, for whom he capped 142 times.

The Partenopei will welcome the experienced defender amid a tight financial outset due to the coronavirus pandemic. The versatile center-back is known for his flexibility and technical style of play that allows him to function as a left back in addition to his traditional role.

His contract with Napoli will last for one-year, with an option to extend for an additional season. Jesus was largely excluded from Paulo Fonseca’s tenure in Roma, before which he was a regular starter for three consecutive seasons.
