Orsato Leads Italian Referee Delegation for Argentina vs Croatia

Daniele Orsato will lead the group of referees who will oversee the first semi-final of the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar, which has exceeded expectations in terms of the footballing quality on the pitch. Argentina face Croatia in the first semi-final, whereas Morocco take on France in the second semi-final encounter.

An all-Italian delegation will head the first semi-final that will take place at the Lusail Stadium on Tuesday, according to MilanNews. Veteran referee Daniele Orsato will lead proceedings on field, whereas the VAR backroom will be headed by Massimiliano Irrati and Paolo Valeri.

The two linesmen are also from Italy – Ciro Carbone of Naples and Alessandro Giallatini of Rome.

Orsato previously took control of the opening game of the tournament between Qatar and Ecuador, before officiating Argentina’s win over Mexico. He was later rested for both the Round of 16 and quarter-final stages, but now returns for the first semi-final.

Orsato has officiated only one match for Argentina in his career – earlier in tournament, but has overseen three Croatia matches. It includes two wins for Hrvatska and one defeat, which arrived at the hands of England at EURO 2020.

This will be the third World Cup meeting between the South American powerhouse and the European fighters. Argentina won 1-0 in 1998, before Croatia mustered a 3-0 victory in the last edition.
