Osimhen Going to Galatasaray but with a Pair of Caveats

Victor Osimhen will formally complete his transfer to Galatasaray on Tuesday after getting greeted like a rockstar at the airport on Monday night. He’ll transfer on a simple loan, with the Turkish team covering his wages, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

It remains to be seen how long he’ll stay in his new home, though. He asked and obtained a clause to depart in January if a top club wanted him and compiled a ten-team list. The Cimbom would receive part of the fee in that event.

Before okaying the Galatasaray switch, Napoli and Osimhen agreed to a club option to extend his contract until 2027 if he doesn’t leave permanently in 2025. In exchange for that, the release clause was lowered from €130M to €75/80M, facilitating his future departure.

The Turkish side started pursuing the Nigerian star after losing Mauro Icardi to a substantial injury. The Partenopei quickly agreed to do the deal to avoid having to pay the pariah €15M gross not to play. The marksman set some conditions but eventually accepted.

He spoke to the Turkish press after his arrival (via Tuttomercatoweb).

“It’s a nice sensation, and the atmosphere is incredible. It’s one of the best fan bases in the world. I’ve spoken with Dries Mertens before coming. He’s a great guy, and it’ll be good to reunite with him.”

Our Take on Osimhen, Galatasaray, and Napoli

In the end, cooler heads prevailed, and, with their backs against the wall, they did away with all the bad blood and negotiated fairly reasonable terms. It’s an okay outcome for all parties involved, as they would have never pocketed over €100M anyway.
