Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has been included in Nigeria’s preliminary squad for next month’s African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The 22-year-old sustained facial injuries following a collision with Milan Skriniar during the Partenopei’s Serie A fixture against Inter last month. Napoli confirmed that he would be out of action for three months.
However, Osimhen has made himself available for selection and has been included in the Super Eagles’ preliminary squad for the AFCON.
Osimhen has been in pretty good form for Napoli this season, amassing nine goals and two assists in 14 appearances across all competitions so far. Given his quality, the 22-year-old is a key player for Nigeria in the AFCON and if he is fully fit, we could well see him feature regularly for the Super Eagles in Cameroon.
Osimhen’s availability for the tournament would also be a good sign for Napoli as he would be able to join them after its conclusion.
