Paris Saint-Germain Established Contact With Napoli Defender

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly joined Inter in a keenly-contested race to sign Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly. As reported by Corriere dello Sport, the Ligue 1 powerhouse have had a meeting with the player’s agent Fali Ramadani to understand the feasibility of the move.

Koulibaly is said to be keen on exiting the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona this summer, with several top clubs interested in acquiring his services. Reports earlier this week claimed Napoli turned down Manchester United’s €30million bid for their in-demand centre-back.

Inter have also emerged as a potential landing spot for the Senegalese star, who moved to Naples from Genk in summer 2014. Simone Inzaghi looks to add to his defensive options as he looks to deploy a three-man backline, utilizing the identical formation to the one preferred by Antonio Conte.

However, the reigning Serie A champions could miss out on Koulibaly’s signature, particularly in light of PSG’s involvement in the race. Les Parisiens have approached Ramadani to ask about the 30-year-old’s availability. Aurelio De Laurentiis is open to selling his wantaway star in the summer, who has two years left to run on his current contract at Napoli.

Despite just recently signing Sergio Ramos, Mauricio Pochettino wants to bring in another proven defender. In addition to the Spaniard, Marquinhos and Presnel Kimpembe are other reliable options for the central defender position. After playing with four at the back during his maiden half-season in charge, the Argentine thinks of switching to a three-man defense.

Koulibaly is also closely monitored by the likes of Liverpool and Everton, while the Red Devils’ interest dwindled on the back of Raphael Varane’s pursuit. New Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti has also admitted the Senegal international is in the market. But he insists he would like the centre-half to stay put.
