Paulo Fonseca has praised his Milan side after they halted a three-game winless Serie A start with a 4-0 rout of newcomers Venezia. The Rossoneri delivered an emphatic performance at San Siro to post their first win under the Portuguese manager and set themselves up nicely for a busy week.
Milan scored four unanswered goals inside the opening 30 minutes to put Venezia to the sword on Saturday evening. Theo Hernandez, Youssouf Fofana, Christian Pulisic, and Tammy Abraham were on the scoresheet as the 19-time Italian champions steamrolled to a precious victory.
Three points against sub-par opposition were crucial for Milan. They’ll lock horns with Liverpool at the beginning of their Champions League campaign in three days. Afterward, Fonseca’s team will face arch-rivals Inter in the first Derby della Madonnina edition of the 2024/25 season.
Fonseca waxed lyrical about his Milan players after overseeing a scintillating win against Venezia. However, he insists his men must improve ‘a lot’ ahead of the upcoming matches against Liverpool and Inter.
“It was important to have Pulisic, Reijnders, and Loftus-Cheek further forward and have the opportunity to create a numerical superiority and also to look for the moment to accelerate the match,” the Milan coach said, as reported by MilanNews. “We have to continue working to improve because there is a lot to improve.
“I think we have a group with quality. We need to have more energy and intensity: more moments of pressure and quick ball recovery, this is done with the right attitude and speed. Great energy makes the difference. The work of the four players up front was very important: Rafa, Pulisic, Reijnders, and Abraham.”
