Milan have wrapped up their second summer addition, as Strahinja Pavlovic officially completed the process on Wednesday. The Rossoneri started going after him with determination a couple of weeks ago and eventually reached an agreement with RB Salzburg.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the defender is on the move for a €18M fee plus €2M add-ons. He’ll double his wages compared to his time in Austria and will earn €1.5M for the next five years.
Pavlovic arrives at Milan after being close to transferring to Serie A a couple of times. Juventus eyed him in the past, while his transfer to Lazio fell through after the medicals. He joined RB Salzburg in a €7M move from Monaco in 2022 after multiple loan spells since he didn’t hit his stride in the Principality. He has played 71 times with them since, posting 6 goals and 6 assists. Moreover, he has 38 caps with Serbia.
The acquisition could lead to the departure of Malick Thiaw, who’s on Newcastle United’s radar. While that might happen in the near future, his agent, Gordon Stipic, denied that it’s a done deal already to Sky Sport Deutschland on Monday.
Our Take on Milan Signing Pavlovic
He wasn’t exactly cheap but not too pricey either, and they have been looking for a solid left-footed defender for a few windows. They can always decide to have extra depth, so Thiaw’s exit isn’t a fait accompli, even though the signals point in that direction. Since they are in very good shape in the middle now, they should consider using Pierre Kalulu permanently as a right-back.
