Lorenzo Pellegrini is experiencing his toughest season since he’s at Roma, as he hasn’t been able to find pace following a pair of thigh injuries.
According to Corriere dello Sport (via 90min), the situation weighs on him, and he’s reflecting on his future. He’s not serene, and the Saudi sirens are sounding loud.
Pellegrini makes €6M, which has routinely scared off foreign suitors in previous windows. But that wouldn’t be a problem for the emerging league, which will continue to raid the top championships next summer.
Roma will let the midfielder come to a decision on his own. His agents are fielding calls but aren’t pushing for his exit. If he chooses to depart, the Giallorossi will sit down with the potential suitors to discuss a proper fee.
Galatasaray have also shown some interest in the Azzurri staple.
Our Take on Pellegrini
While his season has been flat-out terrible, and perhaps his injury problems have been more severe than what transpired, it’d be shocking if it led to his departure. The elephant in the room is that Roma can’t really afford hefty wages of underperforming contributors, but there’s a long list in their squad before getting to the captain.
A couple of sound performances and a goal here or there should suffice to vanquish the concerns. Still, it’ll be interesting to see who will be the first to start the Italian exodus toward Saudi Arabia or if their clubs prefer higher-caliber players.
