Pioli Praises Milan after Atletico Madrid victory

Milan manager Stefano Pioli heaped praise on their team after their victory over Atletico Madrid last night.

A late winner from Junior Messias sealed a very crucial victory for the Rossoneri, thus keeping their knockout hopes alive. Milan thus became the first Italian club to defeat Atletico at their home ground since Parma in 1999.

Following the match, Pioli heaped praise on his team for their valiant performance. He told Milan TV: “I think the most important thing from the team today here in Madrid was we experienced this game with great intensity on a mental level.

“Everyone was fully involved, and it is right that we won a very difficult match on a pitch where I think almost no Italian side has emerged victorious, apart from Parma in 1999, so we’re obviously very happy.

“But, like always, we need to be level-headed. We mustn’t get carried away but such a match against a team at such a high level should make us understand even more that with the right concentration levels and when we go about things the right way and have the right ideas, we can be a strong side.”

Mila are now third in their Champions League group with four points, just one behind Porto. The battle for second place is quite close with Atletico having just as good of a chance to qualify for the knockout stages as the other two teams.

A victory against Liverpool at San Siro would more or less seal the Rossoneri’s place in the last 16.
