Milan coach Stefano Pioli dished on his side, the title race, the previous Scudetto, and further topics in the full release of an interview with SportMediaset.
“We won the title sooner than we anticipated in 2022. When you invest in young players, you don’t expect immediate results. Therefore, it has been a very important year for us, filled with satisfactions. It was our goal, because we had finished second the campaign before.”
“Prevailing in the derby was key because we were seven points behind Inter. We were disinterested in what they said about us from the outside. I leaned a lot on the motivations of the players, since we were always seen as underdogs. I told them every day, and I have to thank those that didn’t believe in us because they gave us something extra.”
The boss was quizzed about some colleagues.
“Carlo Ancelotti is a top coach all-around. He has won every league, managed and improved players. He has style, class, common sense, and intelligence. He’s a reference point. The match against Antonio Conte is very stimulating. We hadn’t made it this far in a while, and we’ll face a team with a great gaffer.”
“Simone Inzaghi and I have an excellent relationship. At Lazio, when he was helming the Primavera side, I used to follow his practices and he did the same.
