Player Ratings for Juventus vs Porto: Chiesa Secures Away Goal

In the first leg of the Champions League round of 16, Porto welcomed Juventus at The Estádio do Dragão. The hosts were able to score at the very first minute of both halves taking advantage of some shocking mistakes from the Bianconeri at the back. Nonetheless, a late Federico Chiesa strike ends the match 2-1, as the Italian champions maintain their hopes of overturning the result at home in the second leg. So here are our player ratings for the Juventus player after their tough encounter at Porto.

Juventus XI

wojciech szczęsny – 5.5

Although the first goal was mainly Bentancur’s fault, the Polish goalkeeper looked shaky overall, and almost costed the team another goal with his poor passing. Nevertheless, he managed to make some decent second half saves against Sergio Oliveira and Jesus Corona.

Danilo – 5.5

Not the return to Porto that the Brazilian was hoping for, and will be added to the list of absentees when Juventus welcome the Portuguese champions next month, after receiving a needless yellow card. Failed to support Chiesa on the right wing.

Matthijs De Ligt – 5.5

Another Bianconeri defender who earned a yellow card. The Dutchman didn’t look as solid as usual, and was unable to intercept the assist which led to Porto’s second goal by Moussa Marega.

Giorgio Chiellini – 6

The Italian veteran was enjoying his physical battle with Marega until he had to leave the pitch early with what appears to be yet another muscular injury.

Alex Sandro – 6

Another Juventus player who was facing his old side. The left back was perhaps one of the culprits on the second goal as he failed to track Manafa’s run, but was also the catalyst behind Juve’s precious away goal with his sublime through-ball towards Rabiot.

Weston McKennie – 5.5

The American once again ran hard all over the pitch, but he wasn’t able to find enough space between the hosts’ defensive lines. Not going through his best period at the moment.

Rodrigo Bentancur – 4.5

The Uruguayan gifted Porto the lead within the first minute with a shocking back pass that found Mehdi Taremi. Andrea Pirlo gave him 90 minutes to redeem himself, and although he showed some improvement during the second half, failed to truly made up for the early damage that he caused.

Adrien Rabiot – 6.5

The Frenchman had a much better night than his midfield partner. Even though it was far from an impressive performance, the former PSG man was able to win the ball back on several occasions, and assisted Chiesa for the vital away goal.

Federico Chiesa – 7

The Italian winger was easily the Old Lady’s most dangerous player from start to finish. Grabbed a late away goal for Juventus as he sneaked inside the Porto penalty area and expertly slide it in the far corner.

Dejan Kulusevski – 5

A non-existent performance from Swede who’s suffering in the physical battles whenever he’s being deployed up front. Had only one dangerous run toward the opposition’s box  but failed to deliver the killer ball.

Cristiano Ronaldo – 5.5

The Portuguese had a tough battle against his compatriots, and drifted away from the match at times. He will look to avenge himself in the second leg.

Juventus Substitutes

Merih Demiral – 6

A decent performance from the Turk who made several key interception, although he failed to cover for his teammates on Marega’s goal.

Alvaro Morata – 5.5

Not the best outing from the Spaniard, but at least the team looked better with a true center forward on the pitch.
