Premier League Giants Continue Chase for Napoli’s Osimhen

Napoli will do all they can to hold onto their most prized possession, Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian marksman arrived from Lille in 2020, and is currently experiencing the best goalscoring season of his professional career so far, having scored 16 goals in 28 appearances for the Partenopei.

With Lorenzo Insigne leaving on a mega-deal to FC Toronto and Dries Mertens in the dark regarding his contract situation, the onus lies on Osimhen to propel the Napoli forward line next season. It is solely for this reason club president Aurelio De Laurentiis doesn’t want to see him leave only after two campaigns.

However, the presence of Premier League pounds is expected to change Napoli’s mind going forward. According to Tuttosport (via TuttoNapoli), it will be very difficult to resist the onslaught of English clubs for Osimhen.

Newcastle United and Arsenal are expected to offer €120m for the highly-rated 23-year-old forward, who is currently experiencing a breakthrough season at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. Of the two aforementioned clubs, the Gunners have already reportedly made first contact after extensively scouting the player this term.

Despite spending almost two months on the sidelines with a cheekbone fracture, Osimhen has returned strong on the big stage, playing a huge part in helping Napoli emerge as contenders in the Scudetto race, that is until Empoli came calling.
