PSG Thought They Would Get Inter Star Until Last Moment

PSG tried to acquire Milan Skriniar until deadline day, as coach Christophe Galtier suggested, although Inter didn’t cave, as they wouldn’t have had time to sign a proper replacement. Especially with Manchester City signing Manuel Akanji.

As per L’Equipe, the Ligue 1 giants truly believed the Nerazzurri would eventually sell the Slovak. Everybody within the organization was convinced of that. The gaffer hinted at it multiple times throughout the summer. The club had even requested a visa to allow him to participate in their Japanese tour.

On the other hand, the PSG attempt for Skriniar was hindered by delays in the exits, which didn’t allow them to lodge a bumper offer to Inter. That has caused friction among directors Luis Campos and Antero Henrique. The latter was in charge of finding new teams for their outcasts. He had the mandate of bringing in €150M from sales. That happened only partly, reducing the ammo at his disposal of his colleague for purchases.

The former Porto exec is also under scrutiny for transfers of Leandro Paredes to Juventus and Julian Draxler to Benfica. The two outcasts joined their opponents in the Champions League group. The officials are at odds, and owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi will have to mend fences. The chairman personally intervened in the talks with the Nerazzurri as he phoned the counterpart Steven Zhang, but in vain.

Our Take on Inter, Skriniar, and PSG

The report is consistent with the French side’s confidence throughout the window, while the rumors from Italy had generally gone in the opposite direction, with the Nerazzurri shutting the door after missing out on Gleison Bremer and Serie A was about to begin. And that proved correct, even though the buzz lingered until Thursday.
