PSV Eindhoven Lodge €9m Bid for Roma Utility Man

Roma wingback Nicola Zalewski has emerged as a concrete target for defending Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Dutch heavyweights have approached Daniele De Rossi’s side with a tangible €9 million bid for the Poland international.
After couldn’t make it out of the Champions League last-16 in 2023/24, PSV are keen to strengthen their squad. They’ve identified Zalewski as a potentially valuable addition, particularly in light of Sergino Dest’s injury. It’s now up to Roma to decide whether they want to sell.
Zalewski came through the ranks at the Stadio Olimpico before making his senior breakthrough in 2021. He has since established himself as a permanent first-team fixture for Roma. Therefore, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Italians decide against sanctioning his departure.
While it’s an opportunity for Roma to cash in on their homegrown starlet, offloading Zalewski does not make much sense from a tactical standpoint. The Pole is comfortable playing on either flank and can perform on the wing, almost equally well as in a wingback position.
De Rossi’s options out wide aren’t great. Angelino and Zeki Celik have struggled for conviction, while Rick Karsdorp remains on the fringes. On that basis, Roma cannot afford to let Zalewski go unless they can find a reliable alternative in the final days of the summer transfer window.
Strangers things have happened, yet it’s hard to see Roma selling the 22-year-old this late in the summer. Meanwhile, the player’s stance remains unknown for the time being.
