Adrien Rabiot didn’t find the conditions he was looking for after three months as a free agent and ultimately gave in to Olympique Marseille’s courtship. In the end, he accepted less than Juventus’ final offer and also Milan’s rumored proposal, Corriere dello Sport informed.
The Frenchman signed a two-year deal. He will make €3.5M in the first season and a little more in the second one. He won’t be able to play in the Champions League. On the other hand, the commissions for his mother and agent Veronique are significant.
Milan had tried three times to persuade Rabiot during the summer. They tendered €5M per year, but the midfielder had yet to lower his requests at that stage. Instead, he had asked Juventus for €8M annually, and they shut the door in July.
Former Juventus defender Mehdi Benatia was instrumental in convincing him; ex-Sassuolo director Giovanni Rossi and coach Roberto De Zerbi also contributed to the success of the operation by relaying the team’s ambitions.
According to Calciomercato, Rabiot refused bids from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Atletico Madrid. Agent Bruno Satin slammed Veronique to RMC Sport.
“What happened stems from the incompetency of the people who follow him. It’s important to be supported by professionals. He’d be in a top-ten European team if that were the case. I spoke with a Colchoneros director in late July. He told me he ended the talks with his mother right away because she started explaining where his son was supposed to play. She tires out everybody because she’s unbearable.”
