Raphael Varane Strikes Verbal Agreement with Como

When the news of Raphael Varane’s unfathomable switch to Como hit the surface earlier in the summer, everyone thought it was another media hoax. However, the French center-back is on the verge of joining the Italian outfit after sealing a verbal agreement with Cesc Fabregas’ side.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the 31-year-old has accepted Como’s proposal. Assistant manager Fabregas has reportedly played a pivotal role in convincing Varane to link up with Como. The ex-Real Madrid star left Manchester United at the end of last season as a free agent.
He won two domestic titles with the Red Devils, helping them claim League Cup glory in 2022/23 and beat Manchester City in the 2023/24 FA Cup final. Despite his indifferent stretch at Old Trafford, Varane is still a household name in European football.
The esteemed center-back will likely be a massive addition for Como. The newly-promoted Serie A side went to great lengths to lure the superstar to Italy. They had to cope with Inter Miami’s interest in Varane as the Major League Soccer franchise hoped to team him up with Lionel Messi.
Varane had visited Como last month to talk to the club’s hierarchy. Talks have seemingly come to fruition, with the player green-lighting the Italian minnows’ invitation to join them. It’s now only a matter of paperwork.
Como will submit all the necessary papers in the coming days before announcing Varane’s acquisition. They’re also close to landing the 29-year-old Marseille goalkeeper Pau Lopez on loan.
