Rationale Behind Zielinski Decision to Reject Al-Ahli Revealed

Piotr Zielinski was expected to sign a contract renewal a couple of months ago, but nothing has yet materialized, although he has expressed unwavering passion for the Partenopei colors. The Napoli midfielder rebuffed repeated attempts from Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ahli over the summer, instead opting to stick in the south of Italy for a lower pay.

As per La Gazzetta dello Sport (via TuttoNapoli), after a long period of reflection with his wife Laura, Zielinski decided against choosing to accept the big money transfer to the Middle East. Reportedly, safeguarding the balance of his family was of utmost importance despite the €15M net per season offer from Al-Ahli – almost five times what he earns in Naples.

Zielinski is keen to extend his stay with the Partenopei despite a pay lower than his current salary, and club chief Aurelio De Laurentiis is all for it. However, an agreement is yet to be struck between Napoli and the player’s entourage, led by agent Bartolomej Bolek.

He is in line to earn just over €2.5M net per season over the next two seasons, a massive dampening from his previous €3.5M payroll.

Our Take on the Zielinski saga

The Polish central midfielder is an undisputed starter for Napoli despite the arrival of Rudi Garcia, who has understood his importance. Zielinski’s decision to stick with the Partenopei will undoubtedly further his status as a club icon.
