RB Leipzig Center-Forward Very High on Milan Shortlist

Milan has seemingly given up the chase for Serhou Guirassy for January, postponing their search for a new no.9 to the summer, with Benjamin Sesko at the forefront of it. Olivier Giroud might stay, although there are no certainties about it, but the Rossoneri want to pair him with a young center-forward, La Gazzetta dello Sport relays.

The Frenchman will turn 38 and decide his future only at the end of the season. He’s tempted by a spell in the MLS.

Milan have had Sesko on their radar for a few years. He hasn’t completely lived up to expectations since transferring from RB Salzburg to Leipzig for €20M. He has bagged 7 goals in 23 appearances, often coming off the bench.

Yet, the Rossoneri see him as an ideal successor due to his combination of size, agility, and technique. His camp had a meeting with Paolo Maldini back in the summer of 2022.

Other potential candidates like Jonathan David and Guirassy have fallen to the side following the cancellation of the ‘Decreto Crescita’ because they’d command richer wages.

Our Take on Milan and Sesko

It’d be a lot easier for them if Giroud stayed for another season to mentor his heir. Luka Jovic, who’s on an expiring contract, doesn’t figure to be a great fit for such a role. Otherwise, they’ll have to spend for two, with the other being more of a sure thing. The Sloven would be expensive, but they haven’t been shy in investing in prodigies they covet.
