Lazio will continue their search for a reliable Ciro Immobile deputy at the end of the season. They haven’t been able to find one in recent windows. They didn’t sign anybody in January, while they bolstered their attack just with youngster Matteo Cancellieri last summer.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Mariano Diaz has been freshly linked with a move to the Italian capital by Spanish outlets. He’s on an expiring contract but makes €5M, so his salary is too high for the Biancocelesti. He’d have to slice it in half in a multi-year deal to become a real option.
The Spaniard has the same representatives as Luis Alberto, so the channel of communication is open. Club Brugge’s marksman Ferran Jutglà is part of their agency too and is a candidate as well. He has bagged 8 goals in 25 appearances in the Jupiler Pro League this season. Freiburg’s Rolland Sallai was on Lazio’s radar in January, but he’s not a pure center-forward and isn’t having a great year, partly due to an eye injury.
The role will be the main summer priority for Lazio, which will leave no stone unturned to address it this time. In the meantime, Immobile will likely sit Tuesday’s Europa League game versus AZ Alkmaar due to ankle and thigh soreness. The coaching and medical staff want to preserve him for the next Serie A matches.
