Real Madrid Interested in Roma and Italy Dynamic Fullback, Met Agents

Real Madrid are eyeing Roma fullback Leonardo Spinazzola. New consultant Luis Campos recently met his representative Davide Lippi and the intermediary Ludovic Fattizzo in France. The Merengues inquired about the availability of the Italian international, AS reported.

The Giallorossi have denied receiving any official offer. Moreover, the rumored swap with Borja Mayoral is unlikely. The Spanish striker is set to stay on loan at Roma for another season. His previous deal already features a €20M option to buy in 2022. Spinazzola has a considerably higher price tag, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports.

Real Madrid may look at Serie A market more with Carlo Ancelotti at the helm. But they will need to sell one of their left-backs, likely Marcelo, before bringing in a newcomer. At that point, Sporting’s Nuno Mendes and Spinazzola would be the top options.

The 28-year-old defender was a late bloomer and burst onto the scenes with Atalanta in 2017. He later returned to Juventus, which owned his card, but had a mixed season in 2018/2019. He transferred to the Italian Capital as part of a swap with Luca Pellegrini, receiving a €29.5M evaluation. If Roma decided to sell him, they would be looking to get a richer sum.

Spinazzola fully blossomed in the last 18 months, taking over the role from Aleksandar Kolarov. He is coming off his best campaign yet as he scored twice and tallied 8 assists in 39 matches in 2020/2021. He has been one of the top performers for Italy in the Euro as well.
