Milan Signing Reijnders Reveals ‘Impossible’ Barça Move

Milan recently confirmed the acquisition of AZ Alkmaar midfielder Tijjani Reijnders as their sixth signing of the season, and the Dutchman believes it wasn’t a tough decision to choose the Rossoneri over other suitors. Reportedly, Barcelona were also strong in the running to secure Reijnders, with coach Xavi Hernandez even calling up the midfielder to discuss a potential transfer.

In the words of the FC Twente youth product to La Gazzetta dello Sport, it was ’impossible’ for him to deny Milan as he had already made the decision.

“Xavi called me to discuss possible move to Barcelona. But it was impossible for me. No way, as I already decided to join AC Milan.”

Reijnders was also quizzed whether he feels the pressure to fill in for Sandro Tonali, who stunningly moved to Newcastle United at the start of the transfer window.

“Zero. I honestly don’t feel pressure, I want to be myself on and off the pitch.”

Reijnders signed with Milan until the summer of 2028 after being convinced by Stefano Pioli to join the club, he revealed in an interview to De Telegraaf earlier last week. The San Siro will welcome him as the club’s new number 14.
