Italy’s EURO 2020 star Gianluigi Donnarumma endured one of the most difficult evenings of his professional career at Santiago Bernabeu. Real Madrid cruised to the UEFA Champions League quarter-final stages by virtue of a Karim Benzema hattrick in the space of 17 second-half minutes, and of all the three goals conceded by Paris Saint-Germain, the first is bound to haunt the ex-Milan shotstopper for the rest of his playing days. Donnarumma took his time on the ball and eventually succumbed to pressure by Benzema by misplacing a pass that led to Madrid’s opener.
Donnarumma and former Real Madrid star Keylor Navas are at loggerheads in the French capital over a fight for a place in the starting eleven, and his latest blunder against Los Blancos has forced the spotlight on him.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via TuttoJuve), Juventus have put their eyes back on him’. The Bianconeri have supposedly never led their sights astray of the Azzurri shotstopper, who is still in the starting stages of his young career. 31-year-old Wojciech Szczesny could yet be replaced by the former Milan man, as Juventus seek a permanent stopper to succeed the legendary Gianluigi Buffon.
Donnarumma is valued around the €65m mark, according to transfermarkt, and the Rossoneri youth product is contracted until the summer of 2026 with Paris, making it hard for any club to get to him. However, any move back to the Serie A in the future cannot be ruled out.
He has 18 appearances so far this season, as he tussles out for game time with Navas at Parc des Princes.
