Retegui Affirms Uncertain Future Amidst Solid Genoa Links

Mario Retegui has been linked ever closer to Genoa in recent weeks than other Italian counterparts, and the striker himself confirmed that it is likely to be his final few games in the Tigre jersey. Genoa are going strong in negotiations with the 24-year-old’s parent club Boca Juniors, with an agreement expected soon enough, given the player’s discretion.

Speaking to TNT Sport (via Tuttomercatoweb) following Tigre’s Primera Division Matchday 25 defeat to Barracas Central, Retegui shed a little clarity on his future.

“Are these my last games at Tigre? I don’t think it’s time to talk about my future, it’s very likely that these will be my last games. But my head is here, I’m focused on playing the next games.”

Tigre coach Juan Manuel Sara also echoed on the topic.

“We need to be attentive to the market. It’s the reality that we have to live, we have to put our hearts into it. And I don’t know if we can count on Mateo Retegui on Thursday, we will go day by day.”

Genoa have a genuine concern with regards to the salary of Retegui, who presently earns over €1M net per season, making him a potential outsider with regards to the Grifone’s salary cap, as per La Gazzetta dello Sport.
