Retegui Thanks Inter Icon Milito for Influencing Genoa Move

Italy striker Mario Retegui is on his way to Genoa after a four-year deal was struck with Boca Juniors by the Grifone. Retegui was the subject of great speculation from giants such as Inter, Lazio, Napoli, and Juventus, but the 24-year-old ultimately chose newly-promoted Genoa, having consulted Argentine icon Diego Milito.

Speaking to ESPN (via Sky Italia), Retegui indicated his decision to star for Genoa thanks to the advice of Milito, who himself excelled with the club across three stints, scoring 60 goals in 94 appearances.

“My family contacted Milito. We got to know him, he influenced the final decision a bit because Diego spoke very well of the club and the city. I go calmly, I want to play and win.

Retegui is finally relinquishing his lifelong dream of playing in Europe.

“I’m very happy with what’s happening; playing in Europe was a dream I had as a child and it’s coming true. Let’s hope it’s the ideal championship for me. We made the decision as a family and we think it’s the best one. I go to a big club, I’m happy and ready to learn. I want to stay closer to Italian football and do everything possible to grow and learn.”

The official announcement of Retegui’s signing is awaited after the medical examinations and signing of the contract.
