REVEALED: Backgound Behind Inter’s Conte Departure and Inzaghi Arrival

Simone Inzaghi ended his 22-year relationship with Lazio earlier in May as he moved to rivals Inter to embark on a new journey in his managerial career. Apparently, getting the Biancocelesti legend wasn’t easy as he was about to sign a contract renewal with the Roman club.

Inter CEO and managing director Giuseppe Marotta revealed how Inzaghi was lured to the Nerazzurri ranks after five years in charge of the Biancocelesti.

Speaking to the press at the Festival dello Sport in Trento (via LazioNews24), Moratta revealed the background of the managerial transfer.

He began by shining light on Antonio Conte’s decision to leave the club on a high note after winning the 2020/21 Scudetto, which he said was unforeseen.

He said: “Conte’s decision was not so predictable; it blew us away. On those occasions you have to act promptly.”

Inzaghi was immediately identified to replace the former Chelsea coach.

“We fortunately identified a young coach with a significant path like Simone Inzaghi, who was about to renew with Lazio. My and Ausilio’s timeliness was to block the renewal with Lazio and present our program,” he said.

Inter sit third in the league with 17 points, behind Milan and Napoli. Lazio sit sixth in the table with 11 points. The duo clash at the Stadio Olimpico on October 16 when the season resumes after the international break.
