According to reports revealed by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter have officially recorded the worst financial loss in a single football season ever registered by a Serie A club in history.
The loss amounts to €245.6m over the past year, which is also ironically the season where the Nerazzurri won the Scudetto for the first time in over a decade.
The 2020/21 season was heavily affected by the pandemic, due to which such a financial loss was largely expected. According to the report, “The Board of Directors of FC Internazionale Milano SpA has approved the consolidated financial statements for the financial year 2020/2021, which will now be submitted for approval by the shareholders’ meeting, convened by the end of October.”
Juventus are next in the list with losses of €210m.
Out of the two clubs, the Nerazzurri have already offset the majority of the financial downturn – thanks to the departures of Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea and Achraf Hakimi to Paris Saint-Germain.
The Bianconeri, however, have not managed to offset anything as such even after the Cristiano Ronaldo’s sale to Manchester United.
It has be revealed that that losses are largely attributed to the elimination of revenues derived from the closure of stadiums and the contractual reductions of sponsors who have not be subject to the exposure they have paid to receive.
