After their Europa League elimination at the hands of Granada on Thursday, Napoli will have a much lighter schedule for the rest of the campaign, and their postponed encounter against Juventus should finally be rescheduled.
This contest was supposed to be played back in October, but the local authorities prevented Gennaro Gattuso’s men from travelling to Turin after two of their players had tested positive.
The FIGC had originally awarded the Bianconeri a 3-0 win, as per the protocol set at the beginning of the season, with a point being deducted from Napoli’s tally as well.
Nonetheless, the Southerners took the matter into court, and after a long legal battle, the decision was overturned in December.
Therefore, the match is set to be played once again, and the Italian federation has been working on finding a suitable date within the incredibly packed season.
According to Calciomercato.com, Juventus and Napoli should play their postponed match at the Allianz stadium on March 17, which will be a Wednesday.
The second legs of the Europa League round of 16 are supposed to be played on March 18, but with the Azzurri out of the competition, they will be available during that midweek.
For their part, the Italian champions will face Porto in the second leg of the Champions League on the prior midweek, but they do not have other assignments around March 17.
Torino’s latest Covid-19 outbreak ended up postponing their upcoming match Sassuolo, and this fixture is also expected to be rescheduled on the very same date.
Juventus and Napoli have already met twice on the pitch this season.
The Bianconeri won the Italian Super Cup in January by beating their rivals 2-0 thanks to goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Alvaro Morata.
However, The Partenopei returned the favor with a 1-0 league victory two weeks ago, thanks to a spot kick converted by their captain Lorenzo Insigne.
