Revitalized Roma Loanee Keen on Permanent Milan Switch

Tammy Abraham has settled in nicely in Milan, and the solution with him and Alvaro Morata teaming up like in the Derby won’t be a one-off. The Englishman will start again versus Lecce on Friday, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

The newcomer has played 183 minutes. With another appearance, he’ll surpass the 240 he had with Roma in Serie A from April 2023 onward after coming back from an ACL tear. The Giallorossi brought him along slowly and seldomly fielded him along with Romelu Lukaku.

Fonseca has been open to deploying two pure center-forwards together right away. It happened from the get-go sooner than expected and in an unexpected spot given the previous results and the caliber of the opponents. Abraham pushed to join Milan in the summer despite some offers from the Premier League. He accepted a lower salary than his €5M annual one in Rome.

The marksman has quickly gelled with Morata on the pitch and become a locker room leader. His preference is to stay with the Rossoneri for years to come. However, the two clubs will have to re-negotiate next summer as he and Alexis Saelemaekers transferred on straight loans.

Our Take on Milan and Abraham

He was bound to naturally improve physically the more time removed from his major injury. The fact that he and the Spaniard are mobile and willing passers and not old-fashioned bruisers helps. The adjustment is sustainable as long as the attackers track back adequately, as they have had major defensive issues. It’s easier to be motivated to do that that in the Derby than in other fixtures. The tweak makes the rotation in the midfield easier as they are thin sans Ismael Bennacer.
