Hector Bellerin has been linked to a possible move to Roma amid the ongoing Rick Karsdorp saga. However, he’s unlikely to transfer in January.

Right-Back Seeking Roma Keen on Barcelona Fringe Option

Roma are open to partying ways with Rick Karsdorp after José Mourinho showed him the door, but they don’t want to simply loan him out. They wish to monetize on his departure or, at worst, include an obligation to buy in the deal.

As per Corriere dello Sport, Juventus, Bologna, Lyon and Olympique Marseille have expressed interest in the Dutchman. However, the two Serie A sides would bring him in only temporarily. The Giallorossi haven’t formally frozen him out, but a reconciliation is unlikely. The club will soon decide whether he’ll partake in an upcoming tour in Japan.

Roma have been offered a few fullbacks to replace Karsdorp. As per La Gazzetta dello Sport, Bartosz Bereszynski and Alvaro Odriozola would be relatively cheap options. However, José Mourinho is keener on Hector Bellerin. Barcelona wouldn’t mind offloading him. Though, the Spaniard recently stated that he would like to stay and extend his contract, which expires at the end of the season.

The Special One will attempt to convince him personally. He has managed with several of their major signings. Betis Sevilla are also tracking the 27-year-old. He has been routinely linked with a Serie A move, but it has never come to fruition.

Our Take on Roma Seeking a Right-Back amid the Karsdorp Saga

Reinserting him into the squad wouldn’t make much sense and perhaps even be hurtful, as he was probably singled out to send a message to the whole team. The Giallorossi should hunt for a clear upgrade and not a lateral move. The solution with the biggest upside might be to permanently deploy Nicola Zalewski on the right flank and then sign a lefty wing-back to have more variety.
