River Plate in Pole Position to Edge Juventus for Suarez

Soon-to-be free agent Luis Suarez has been heavily linked to a Bosman transfer to Turin giants Juventus after his entourage offered him to the club. Amid reports of the Bianconeri evaluating his potential onboarding two years after the language exam scandal, the Uruguayan striker looks to be heading elsewhere instead.

The former Barcelona marksman has been assessing his future since before the end of the La Liga season. Links have been emerging on a potential move to Aston Villa, where former teammate Steven Gerrard leads the dugout, since the duo remains in close contact to this day since their Liverpool days.

However, Villa will look to strengthen other areas rather than his role, as relayed by Gerrard himself in an interview with The Birmingham Mail.

“A lot of names are bandied around and stuff, but I obviously know him extremely well. He’s top class and has been a world-class footballer throughout his career so I understand the links but we’re not after a center-forward, whether it be Luis or anybody else in this window.”

La Gazzetta dello Sport’s reports of Suarez heading to Italy are put to bed by the latest links that have emerged with an Argentine heavyweight. According to Calciomercato, the veteran might just be heading to River Plate.

Los Millionarios coach Marcelo Gallardo spoke recently after his club’s stalemate against Atletico Tucuman about the fact that he himself contacted Suarez to evaluate what his stance is (via Mundo Deportivo).

“I spoke with him, I know him, I have a good relationship. I have a lot of respect for the player and the person. I contacted him to find out what was going to happen in his life and if he wanted to come experience Argentine soccer in an institution like ours.”

“It is difficult to talk about a possibility that we do not know if it can be real beyond the interest of our club and the fact that the footballer has valued it and is taking it into consideration.”

“It doesn’t depend on us. We have to wait and see what possibilities there are when the player analyzes each situation. We have to be patient.”

Suarez has been linked with numerous clubs, including MLS outfit Inter Miami and even Serie A top dogs Atalanta in recent weeks. He ended his Rojiblancos stint with 34 goals in 83 appearances.
