Road to Euro 2020: France Team Analysis Powered by The Scouting App

The World Champions start the Euro 2020 tournament as favorites but France have been placed in the so-called “Group of Death” alongside Portugal and Germany with Hungary completing the pool. The group stage won’t be a walk in the park, but Didier Deschamps has the talent at his disposal to go a step further this time than they did in 2016.

The strength of France without a doubt lies in the attack with Kylian Mbappé and Antoine Griezmann expected to play an important part again. Karim Benzema back in the squad after a six-year gap only makes that attack stronger with Ousmane Dembélé, Kingsley  Coman and Olivier Giroud being a very strong back-up. Champions League winner N’golo Kante and star midfielder Paul Pogba will look to dominate from the middle of the park once again with Rafael Varane being at the heart of a solid defense.

If ever there was a flaw in this flawless French side, it would be the partner of Rafael Varane. Whilst both Presnel Kimpembe and Jules Koundé are very good on their day, this season they have been found wanting on the odd occasion. That is one area opposition may look to take advantage of against the World Champions. Kurt Zouma, who shone brightly for Chelsea, is also in contention for partnering Varane.

All in all, France look the real deal once again this summer and potentially could go all the way.

France Player to Look Out For: Kylian Mbappé

With the Ronaldo-Messi era in its twilight stages, the 22-year old sensation is without a doubt the present and future of football. After failing to win the Champions League and Ligue 1 with PSG, the winger would be even more motivated to lift silverware for his national side this summer. With a front three boasting the likes of Griezmann and Benzema, the French wonderkid will look to blaze all his guns to help France lift the tournament once again. His frightening speed and composed finishes will no doubt be a lethal combination for teams this summer. The boy who stole the show in Russia three years ago will look to be the man who puts in the shift for France at Euro 2020.
