Roma Ace Dybala Delivers Verdict on Empoli Humbling

Paulo Dybala and Romelu Lukaku started the game together for Roma for the first time, and they sealed their partnership with a memorable performance. The formidable duo painted Sunday’s night at the Stadio Olimpico with flying colors, inspiring Giallorossi to a 7-0 demolition of Empoli.

Roma had to wait until matchday four to post their first Serie A win in 2023/24, but it was worth waiting. Dybala stole the spotlight with another vintage display, scoring on either side of halftime to put his boss, Jose Mourinho, at ease following a disastrous league start.

Lukaku’s first goal in the Roma shirt made no difference tonight. However, it could be crucial from a moral standpoint, considering the Belgium international had a turbulent summer. But Dybala’s superb showing overshadowed the ex-Inter striker’s maiden Giallorossi start.

Dybala felt like Roma had an obligation to send a message after delivering a string of underwhelming performances before the international break. And he took it upon himself to drag them over the finish line in style.

We certainly needed to send a message, change something and each of us try to make a sacrifice by giving something more. I think we did that tonight,” Dybala told DAZN, as cited by TMW.

The Roma headline performer also spoke about the summer acquisitions.

I am happy with Lukaku’s arrival, Azmoun, N’Dicka and all the new signings. I spoke to the coach and tried to get back into shape during the break for international duty, I feel good today.
