Roma All Set to Bring In Director Ghisolfi from Nice

Roma have nabbed their new sporting director, as Nice president Jean-Pierre Riviere confirmed that Florent Ghisolfi would leave to head to Italy. He bid farewell following their season finale against Lille, which ended in a two-two draw (via Corriere dello Sport).

“Ghisolfi will join Roma, and we’re happy for him. We had some nice years together. I wish him the best.”

Lille v Nice was likely the last match for both coaches, Calciomercato informed. Paulo Fonseca is on the radar of several teams, including Milan, while Francesco Farioli is in advanced terms to take over Ajax. Bruno Genesio is the frontrunner to replace him. Le Gym finished fifth this campaign.

Ghisolfi will replace Tiago Pinto, who stepped down in February after two and half seasons, at Roma. He has been helming Nice since October 2022. They concluded eighth last season. The exec previously had a three-year run with Lens, helping them get promoted and established in Ligue 1.

The former midfielder spent most of his playing career at Bastia and Stade de Reims. After retiring, he coached the latter’s women’s team and then served as an assistant, also at PSG and Lorient, for the men’s side in Brittany.

Our Take on Roma and Ghisolfi

They wanted an up-and-coming and dynamic director, and got him, although not the one rumored for a few months. They shouldn’t stop at one exec to be more well-rounded. On the other hand, the FFP-related restrictions are more impactful than any possible hire.
