Roma and Arsenal Reportedly Strike Deal for Maitland-Niles

After giving an ultimatum, Roma have reached agreement with Arsenal to sign Ainsley Maitland-Niles. However, the two clubs ended up changing the formula of the deal. The versatile midfielder will join on a simple loan, with no option to buy, Sky Sport reports. He will take the medicals in London tomorrow.

The clause to redeem the 24-year-old in June had turned into the main hurdle in the talks. The Giallorossi were in a rush to bring him in and elected to remove it altogether. Roma will pay Arsenal €500k as the fee for the loan spell of Maitland-Niles, plus €500k add-ons based upon some objectives.

The Serie A club season still plans to retain him past the current season. If that remains the case in the next few months, the parties will have to negotiate his price tag down the line. After getting Maitland-Niles from Arsenal, Roma will allow Riccardo Calafiori to go to Cagliari and Bryan Reynolds to Anderlecht.
