Roma and Fiorentina in Early Stages of Possible Swap

Roma and Fiorentina are discussing a trade between Andrea Belotti and Jonathan Ikoné, which has a few moving pieces and will need time. If it went through, both forwards would transfer on loan with an option to buy, Gianluca Di Marzio informed.

The Italian striker has just a year on his contract with the Giallorossi. Moreover, there’s a gap in the wages of the two. The Azzurri regular makes €2.8M annually, while the Viola winger €1.7M. The capital club is looking for options on the flanks given Daniele De Rossi’s new scheme. Stephan El Shaarawy is the only one with the right characteristics in their squad.

The main sticking point concerning the salaries is what would happen if Roma and Fiorentina redeemed Ikoné and Belotti. The former could cover the difference for the next six months, but it would no longer be possible once the move is permanent.

The 30-year-old has bagged 6 goals and provided 2 assists in 22 appearances so far, mostly off the bench. Instead, the Frenchman has hit the net twice in the Conference League and is still scoreless domestically despite featuring 16 times.

Our Take on Roma, Fiorentina, Belotti, and Ikoné

The gap can simply be covered with a small fee toward the Gigliati, which would be justified by the age difference. Unless Tammy Abraham is coming back soon, the Giallorossi would have to find another striker afterward. They do need wingers, but this is probably not the right kind of deal to address that.
