Roma and Inter Tracking Veteran Real Madrid Defender

Long-serving Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernandez, who has spent his entire professional career in the pristine white of the European champions, is being linked to Roma and Inter for a possible summer move. The 32-year-old veteran has been a mainstay at Madrid since being fully promoted to the first-team from the youth ranks back in 2012.

Spanish outlet Sport relays how the onboarding of Antonio Rudiger from Chelsea places the Spaniard in the background, behind the likes of Eder Militao and David Alaba in the pecking order.

The Giallorossi were the first Italian team to be linked with veteran, and as indicative as the links may seem, it was coach José Mourinho who promoted the then-youngster into the Madrid first team more than a decade ago. It is no secret that the Special one appreciates the center-back’s abilities.

However, Roma aren’t the only ones keeping close tabs on Nacho, as Inter also have him in close sight. The Nerazzurri are aiming at Gleison Bremer as their primary target, followed closely by Nikola Milenkovic of Fiorentina and Fenerbahce’s Min-Jae Kim. They might bring in multiple new defenders.

The five-time Champions League winner has spent his entire career in Madrid, and the club’s upper management wish to reward him with a contract extension that goes beyond the expiration date of June 2023. He has a career total of 386 games for the Merengues and a host of titles that only a handful of players in the elite level of the beautiful game can dream of achieving.
