Roma and Smalling Ready to Shake Hands on Renewal Deal

Roma sporting director Tiago Pinto does not want a new Henrikh Mkhitaryan case, reports Il Tempo (via Tuttomercatoweb). The Giallorossi are aware of what caught them by surprise last year, as then free agent Mkhitaryan switched to the Nerazzurri in the summer of 2022, and want to avoid a similar situation with Smalling who is on Inter’s radar.

The Friedkins, Jose Mourinho and Pinto, all have their verdict ready on the Englishman, as the club prepare to renew his contract at the Stadio Olimpico for a further year or two.

Roma have long tabled an offer for the ex-Manchester United man, but are reportedly ready to meet his demand in order to keep him at the club.

Smalling is an integral part of Mourinho’s defensive line, with the Special One is keen on using him further than this season. Contacts have already took place between Roma and the player’s entourage, and it might not be long before we see the defender pen an extension deal.
